What synth are you using? Perhaps it doesn't conform the the GM spec? Also, are you putting the CC on the proper channel? it must be on the same channel as the sound you are using.

Im always wondering if one may respond more quickly than another, if a CC control may respond more quickly than an envelope or visa versa depending on the situation. An idea also is to try the Melodyne demo thats been out, it allows one to edit audio 10 seconds at a time in demo mode, and its pretty neat, you can pick a note out of a chord and change the pitch, amplitude and formants. You know, if you just find the right software synths or samplers, you can definitely accomplish all of the control you are describing. You can route the attack of an envelope to a CC control, the release, the volume, etc. I think the features you are imagining are probably going to be commonplace eventually, probably be able to see a picture of a wave instead of a bar on a piano roll if you want, why not? But you know, creativity comes out of working with with these tools we have already, there is nothing I can think of that cannot be accomplished for every single note in a song pretty conveniently with the tools available.
NICE! it was the channel thing. i was using a sound that was on another channel so it wasn't fading. how do i change which channel the CC editor pane thingy is affecting? this is actually really cool, because instead of clutter and adding another track pane, i could in a worst case, have the same sound mapped to 2 channels, and then i could fade whichever channel i want, thereby being able to select specific notes quite easily. and everything would move with the clip as i move it. one other question though. is it possible to change the resolution at which i can add these volume control signals? or is that redundant because although i am only inputting few inputs the software is making the transition seamless. or actually even at that i could see how it might be useful to have a possibility for a higher resolution of input data. thanks guys. it would be cool if you could edit these like you can make curves in illustrator, or the way some for software designed parametric EQs work, instead of how the ones with the gui imitating how analog ones work.
Oh, that sounds like a good idea. You could adjust the global volume for one channel. The resolution, basically if you increase the grid from, say, 1/16 to 1/128, then there will be a lot more green bars. You select which Midi channel near the top of the piano roll view, there is a filter thing which does this, as well as just selecting which channel from a drop down menu. Or you can right click on a note and send it to a certain channel. What a good idea to use multiple channels this way, I hadn't exactly thought of this, I hope it works, I'll give it a try, too. Edit: Also, if you press shift while drawing green bars it will draw them in a straight line.
When you click on the "Filter" button there's a dropdown labeled "Draw events on channel:" on the Filter window. With that you can see all channels but draw new stuff and edit CC only on the chosen channel. You can still edit notes of all channels, though, which makes it a bit clumsy to draw a note of the same pitch but another channel over an existing note. Btw you can leave the filter window open while working in the Midi editor. EDIT: I see you already found your way :). Absolutely agree with having that dropdown right there in the editor
