hi all, back posting again :car-smiley-003: . A while ago I went to adjust my timing using a strobe light and after slacking off the distributor bolt I was unable to budge the distributor. I was reluctant to try too hard in case I broke it. Is this tightness normal and if so how do I get it free (using Plus-gas or WD40 )?. regards brendan
Hi..i"ve had a quick butchers at the haynes regarding your dizzy stem..the hold down bolt seems to be the only device holding everything in place...it should in theory(with bolt slackened) be able to turn dizzy stem...so i reckon a soaking in penetration oil should do the trick for you...thats as much as i know...good luck..hj.
Not quite right as only early models had points and condensers and only very late models had managed ignition (electronic is still adjustable by turning the distributor). It's a bit difficult to be 100% which car you're talking about but if it's the GLT saloon then I'm pretty sure GLTs never had points. I also think only the '91 had managed ignition but I'm not sure about that. The distributor is probably just a bit stuck. Find your favourite hammer. The adjuster bolt is the only thing holding it down...
